Dolls of Today

The progress of how dolls are actually starting to look like the diverse women of today is amazing.  We no longer have to go to the store and buy dolls that have features and hair that look nothing like us. We can now buy dolls for our young girls that actually represent us in our hair, features and cultural flavor.  I love that this is happening during our life time, and I hope to see more growth and progress.

See see more ethnically rich dolls, check Naturally Beautiful Hair album on Facebook.

Dolls by Angela Sutter & Annette Himstedt

I have always had a fascination with ethnic dolls that have features that reflect what an African or African American Woman, Man, or child would look like.  So when ever I see dolls that have features that  representation the culture, I like to share it.

Dolls by Annette Himstedt
Here are a few doll's from Annette's doll collection.

Dolls by Angela Sutter
Here are a few dolls from Angela's doll collection online yesterday.  Although they are beyond expensive (2k each... ouch!), they are still lovely dolls.

What do you think?!?

All I want for Christmas is...

A dreadlock Barbie! Yes, they exist. And why the toy markers haven't jumped on this market, I do not know. But out there, are a few folks, that are making these beautiful dolls through a repaint method. Which means to take a doll and change its appearance by changing the color, makeup, clothing and or hair. So with the Dreadlock dolls, the original dolls hair was removed and replaced with Mohair. It is a complicated process, but the results are beautiful. Since the dolls are rare, they can be a bit pricey.
