All I want for Christmas is...

A dreadlock Barbie! Yes, they exist. And why the toy markers haven't jumped on this market, I do not know. But out there, are a few folks, that are making these beautiful dolls through a repaint method. Which means to take a doll and change its appearance by changing the color, makeup, clothing and or hair. So with the Dreadlock dolls, the original dolls hair was removed and replaced with Mohair. It is a complicated process, but the results are beautiful. Since the dolls are rare, they can be a bit pricey.

  1. If you're interested in buying a dreadlock Barbie doll, here is some information to help your search:

Everyone once in a while, someone will sell a 'pre-made' dread locked Barbie on Ebay. But it’s not very often. You can start your search there first.

Your second option is to go to www.TheFlyingEwe.etsy.com. With this lady (not sure of her name), you can either order the tools and hair, and try to make the doll hair on your own Barbie. Which I would love to do, but it would probably be a mess, because I don't know the first thing about re-rooting doll hair. The other option is to send your Barbie doll to this company, and pay them to put in the new dread lock hair in (they use Mohair to give the dolls a dreadlock like appearance). You can choose the kind of mohair that you want placed on your new doll. They will re-root the hair for you, and send it back to you when it’s complete. This is a pricey investment, but well worth the cost. I have not yet had the chance to order one, so if someone else does, please share results of how it turned out.

Here are more pictures of their custom made dolls:
